ABOUT US
Marcy’s Project began in the fall of 2019 when we met Marcy, an 80-year-old woman whose compassion and dedication to helping others inspired us in a profound way. At the time, Marcy had been supporting a family in O’Fallon, Missouri and was preparing to move to Texas. Inspired by her example, we volunteered to continue helping the family after her departure.
When we asked what they needed, a few things stood out.
First, Marcy encouraged us not to “judge.” What is someone else’s “normal” may not be our own. Second, she reminded us, “I bet you have a lot of friends and connections that could help!” She was right. We are surrounded by passionate, talented, and generous people—many who want to help but simply do not know how.
This family taught us so much about need and community. They made us ask, “How many others are out there who need help?” Then COVID-19 hit. We reached out to local nursing homes and school districts to see how we could help, and the response was overwhelming. Together, we raised more than $7,000 to support the Meal Assistance Program in the Francis Howell School District, provide hand sanitizer and PPE to local nursing homes, and deliver thank-you treat trays to nursing home staff and volunteers.
Although she has never been directly involved, Marcy’s compassion and inspiration helped Marcy’s Project become a reality. Today, we are an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization supported by two full-time employees and more than 200 volunteers. We raise funds through donations, fundraising events, grants, our donation-based boutique, and the generosity of our community.
What started as helping one family grew into helping many others. That experience inspired the mission of Marcy’s Project: helping those in need, one kind act at a time.
We can all make a difference—one kind act at a time.
As a resource to families going through hard times, we know that everyone has different needs when things go wrong.
